Whether we realize it or not, we are “electrical” beings. We don’t always think of ourselves that way but it’s true. Your nervous system communicates using electricity, sending and receiving electrical impulses throughout your body to control your biological processes.
Think of it for a moment. When you’re have problems and the doctors orders tests, some of the tests you might get are an ECG and an EEG. An ECG (electro-cardiogram) measures the electrical impulses of your heart and an EEG (electro-encephalogram) measures the electrical impulses of your brain. One of the major signs of death is when the electrical impulses or your brain cease.
Eastern civilizations have long known this and use “energy medicine” to unblock and regulate energy channels in the body (I.e. acupuncture). Western medicine, which is corporately controlled, worries more about profits than actually providing the best possible care for the individual.
Electron Deficiency Syndrome is a condition where your body is lacking in electrons and you become unable to fight inflammation. Unchecked inflammation is recognized as the underlying cause of chronic diseases including heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, Reynaud’s, allergies, the list goes on and on.
Your body is a highly conductive antenna for the Earth with a negative charge. When electrical fields with a positive charge are attracted to you and you’re not grounded they accumulate as a surface charge. When this surface charge reaches 3,000 to 5,000 volts and you touch a metal object there is a sudden discharge known commonly as static electricity.
The closer you are to the Earth the more grounded you will be. The more distance between you and the Earth the greater the charge on your body. For every meter you’re above ground 300 volts of charge will accumulate in your body.
Modern civilization has put many non-conductive obstacles between us and the earth such as synthetic soled shoes, carpets, plastics, concrete, etc. At the same time we have seen inflammation-based diseases increase dramatically. Add to that the electro-magnetic fields we surround ourselves with and you can reach that 3,000 to 5,000 surface charge quickly.
Earthing thins your blood. Within minutes of grounding to the Earth your blood cells have a greater negative charge and actually repel each other causing your blood to flow more easily and your blood pressure to drop.
The results of the University of Oregon study on Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness were remarkable:
- White blood cell count was extremely elevated in the ungrounded group but not elevated at all in the grounded group.
- The antioxident Bilirubin dropped 40% in the ungrounded group but only 5% in the grounded group
- The grounded group experienced less pain than the ungrounded group.
The conclusion was that grounding greatly decreases inflammatory response.
Studies have also shown grounding stabilizes your autonomic nervous system and improves adrenal function.
Earthing (or grounding) is a wonderful way to restore the electrons in your body, bring relief from inflammation and bring the body back into balance.
Walking barefoot on a sandy beach, swimming in seawater, dangling your feet in it are some of the best ways to “ground” yourself because you’re receiving a surge of electrons from the ground until you equalize with the Earth’s slightly negative charge. Also, the salt-water of the ocean is a wonderful conductor so if you wade in the water you’re getting even more benefit from your day at the beach.
Walking barefoot on wet grass has a similar effect and is also a wonderful way of “grounding”. Going out barefoot and touching the earth allows the excess positive charge in your body to discharge into the earth This alleviates the stress on your system produced by the variety of electro-magnetic fields we encounter daily such as televisions, cell phones, cordless phones, computers, tablets, background electricity from the wiring in your home, etc. which increase your positive electrical charge and put stress on your immune system.
People living in cities, away from the beach and open grassy spaces can still receive the benefits of Earthing through the use of grounding mats, pads, sheets and patches. These are connected to a long cord which is plugged into the “ground” opening of an ordinary household electrical outlet. The grounding devices have resistors incorporated into them so they are completely safe to use. A ground tester is included with each earthing device so you can plug it in to your electrical outlet to make sure it is actually grounded.

One of the first things you’ll notice once you’re grounded is that you will sleep better and have less pain. This occurs relatively quickly.
Earthing is so effective that some people have had to decrease their medication dosage. Have your doctor monitor your blood levels if you are using:
Blood Thinners – when you’re grounded your blood becomes thinner so the blood levels of your medications (such as Coumadin) must be monitored.
Oral Hypoglycemics – grounding has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels, so if you take oral medication you will want to monitor your blood sugar carefully and report any changes to your doctor.
Thyroid Replacement – Many people on thyroid replacement medication started having heart palpitations within the first few days of Earthing. This is a sign of thyroid excess which should be check by blood tests. Electron deficiency may be one of the most unrecognized causes of thyroid dysfunction.
